Missing person found in Blue Range, August 2012

Sun 19 Aug 2012.  Bush Search and Rescue was called out for a search for a missing person in the Blue Range near Rubicon.

The missing man was separated from his companion while in the bush at about 11am on Sunday 19 August.

BSAR searchers travelled by bus to the search location on Monday morning.  Shortly before arriving at search base the missing man was located safe and well in a gully having spent the night out.

Tomahawk Hut resumed search with dogs, October 2011

BSAR members assisted Police for three days from 17 to 19 October 2011 in the continuing search for David Prideaux around Tomahawk Hut.  Police had requested four BSAR members, to act as navigators for a search effort utilising dog handlers with their dogs from the Department of Corrections and the Police Dog Squad.  Police selected some higher and flatter areas north of Tomahawk Hut as more likely deer stalking areas for more intensive searching.  Nothing was found.

Search for 13 year old girl at Mt Erica, August 2011

BSAR was called to assist the Police Search and Rescue Squad with the search for a missing 13 year old girl in the Mushroom Rocks area near Mt Erica in the Baw Baw National Park. The girl was part of a Scout group camping in the area. The inclement weather, snow cover and the age of the missing person necessitated a degree of urgency in the search call out.

Sat 6/8/11 The group of BSAR searchers departed Melbourne departed in the evening and commenced searching in the dark upon arrival in the early hours of Sunday.

Sun 7/8/11 A bushwalking club group who were on Mt Erica and had received the call out messages, noticed and reported small footprints in the snow.

Bush Search and Rescue teams with Police Search and Rescue located the missing girl on Sunday afternoon north west of Mt Erica, about 3 kilometers from Mushroom Rocks, after tracking her footprints though the snow for some time.  She was immediately evacuated by the Police Air Wing helicopter and is now recovering.

Otways search call out, June 2011

 

Mon 20/6/11 . A search call out for Bush Search and Rescue was initiated for a man missing in the Otways.

Tues 21/6/11: Missing man was located early in the morning.  The bus transporting BSAR searchers turned around shortly after departure.

Search for missing deer hunter at Tomahawk Creek, June 2011

BSAR were called out to search for a missing deer hunter in the bush at Tomahawk Hut near Mount Stirling and departed Melbourne early on Monday 6 June 2011.

Mon 6/6. BSAR searchers experienced difficult terrain, vegetation and weather.

Tue 7/6. More BSAR searchers joined the search after a second call out.  Snow storms coated much of the vegetation and made the steep terrain difficult to negotiate.  After extensive feature searching of nearby terrain and intensive searching near the point last seen near Tomahawk Creek, the missing person had not been found.

Wed 8/6. Searching resumed early on Wednesday after 15cm of snow fell overnight.  Sago snow and hail fell during the day with continued bad weather contributing to difficult search conditions, with the missing person still not located.

Thu 9/6. Additional members departed Melbourne after a third BSAR call out and joined the search effort.  Further feature searching was  conducted throughout the day.  The missing person was still not located.

Fri 10/6. BSAR members line searched during the day in improved weather conditions.  Unfortunately, the missing person was still not located.  All BSAR members departed the search base mid afternoon and returned to Melbourne.  Police and other services are continuing with the search.
